Volume Replacement
What Is Hyaluronic Acid (HA)?
Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally present in the body and contributes to skin hydration and tissue support. In clinical settings, hyaluronic acid–based gels may be used as part of a personalised treatment plan to support facial structure or hydration, where clinically appropriate.
Your Consultation
All treatments begin with a one-to-one consultation with a qualified health practitioner. During this consultation, the following will be assessed:
- Medical history
- Skin and volume concerns
- Previous cosmetic treatments
- Individual goals and expectations
Based on this assessment, suitability for treatment will be determined and a personalised treatment plan may be developed. Treatments involving prescription-only products are provided following a clinical consultation and valid prescription, in accordance with regulatory requirements.
About the Procedure
The treatment area will be prepared using a medical-grade cleanser to support procedural safety.
Comfort measures such as topical numbing cream, ice, or local anaesthetic may be offered, where appropriate.
A hyaluronic acid–based product may then be administered using fine needles or a cannula, depending on the treatment area and clinical assessment.
Treatment duration varies depending on the number of areas treated and individual requirements.
Approximate appointment time: 30–60 minutes (including preparation)
Discomfort: Generally mild; some formulations contain a local anaesthetic to support comfort
Risks and Potential Risks
All cosmetic injectable treatments carry risks and may cause side effects or complications.
Common side effects can include redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, pain, or temporary asymmetry at the injection site.
Less common but more serious risks may include infection, allergic reactions, nerve injury, vascular complications, tissue damage, scarring, or unsatisfactory outcomes.
A face-to-face consultation with a qualified health practitioner is required to assess individual suitability and to discuss potential risks, benefits, and alternatives.
Recovery & Post-Treatment Care
Temporary effects such as redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising may occur at the treatment site.
Post-treatment advice may include:
- Avoiding touching or massaging the treated area for at least 4 hours
- Avoiding strenuous exercise, heat exposure, or direct sun for 24–72 hours
- Avoiding products containing alcohol, exfoliants, or retinoids during the recovery period
- Gentle cleansing and daily use of sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher)
- Sleeping with the head slightly elevated if swelling occurs
A follow-up appointment may be recommended 2–4 weeks after treatment, depending on individual response.
Treatment Areas
(Subject to individual assessment and clinical indication)
